The
Vijayanagara History is a total social agenda registering a unique
development in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Historians’
and laypersons, both native and foreign, paid rich tributes to the
social commitment of the rulers of those days.
Hampi, a World Heritage Centre, is a cursory glance at the
left over ruins spread over an area of 60 Sq.Kms. The Tungabhadra
river encircling the metropolis has dotted the entire capital city
with innumerable temples like
Sri Virupaksha, Sri
Hajara Rama, Sri Krishna, Sri Uddana Veerabhadra, Sri Kodandarama,
Sri Vijayavithala and Monolothic structures like Ugra
Narasimha, Badavilinga, Kadale and Sasivekalu Ganeshas. And the
sprawling royal enclosures comprising Mahanavami
dibba, Kamal Mahal, Queens’ bath, Elephants’ stables and
watch towers have left a indelible cultural mark of the Vijayanagara
Empire. Over the last 600 years, there have been innumerable
comprehensive studies, observations and exciting spiritualistic
experiences making it a long drawn out attempt to fix the core of
the cultural excellence of the Golden
Era that prevailed in the capital.
